Vikisews Nunzia Dress: How to Sew a Jersey Dress with Cut-Outs
The Vikisews Nunzia dress is an elegant jersey dress with cut-outs at the front. My video is a detailed sew-along, so even a beginner can follow it, mistakes and fixes included.
Why sew the Vikisews Nunzia dress
It's a very elegant knit dress, and the front cut-outs make it special. The video shows every step in detail, including my mistakes and how I fixed them, which is often the most useful part.
My changes to the Vikisews Nunzia pattern
- Wider sleeves. The pattern has negative ease (−1 cm) for jersey, and the sleeves were tight on my arms. I widened them with the method on the Vikisews website, which works for up to 3 cm; that is in a separate video.
- Fixed a lower shoulder at the fitting. First try making the fold at the neckline a little bigger; if that isn't enough, draw a new armhole line on the bodice.
- Took 1 cm off the front bodice at the waist seam, because the front sat low.
- Topstitched the hems on the machine instead of hand-stitching them, to save time: 2 cm on the sleeves, 2.5 cm on the dress.
- Next time I'd use regular (non-stretch) interfacing on the cut-out shoulder. With stretch interfacing, one shoulder came out bigger than the other.
